Treatment of mild and moderate hypertension, it may be employed alone or concomitantly with other antihypertensive agents. Clonidine is not used as the first-line drug agent in the treatment of hypertension.
The second-line medication for use in reducing symptoms of sympathomimetics associated with opioid, nicotine or alcohol withdrawal.
Used for the diagnosis of hypertension associated with pheochromocytoma. If after taking 0.3 mg of clonidine but the concentration of noradrenalin in plasma does not decrease, it can be diagnosed as having pheochromocytoma. In case the concentration of noradrenalin in the blood plasma decreases, it can be diagnosed as sympathomimetic
